Mental Health and School

I haven't really known what to do or how to improve my microtheme, so I am just letting it sit for now. I will have Bethany read it in class on Tuesday and get some input from her, but as of now, I haven't really had any suggestions or ideas to make it better.  I am also kind of content with where it is right now.

So, instead of stressing out about this class (especially since I don't know how to improve my microtheme), I have been working on my homework for other classes and working on managing my stress (which can get out-of-hand at times).  I also focused on building some of my social life here; I met some friends outside of the wrestling team, so that is cool, too!

I really hope anyone who is struggling balancing school, life, and mental health is really able to focus on their mental health. Even though I have school work to do, I know that I have some things that can be left alone for a little while, this will make it easier to focus on my own mental health. If you need some professional help, here is a website that you may find useful: website.

I agree that the microtheme can be very difficult and stressful. It was very hard for me to put all my thoughts only on one page. That really caused me to get stressed. I also had a struggle getting it right the first couple of times. Like you said, sometimes you have to just walk away for it for a while to calm yourself. Now I feel that my microtheme has gotten a lot better since the first time I tired it.

Sometimes setting something aside for a little while is all we need. I agree that you need to always prioritize yourself and your mental health. I hope you find your perfect school-life balance.

  3. Mental health is really important, and I like what you said about being okay leaving things undone for a little while. When I do this, I feel more refreshed coming back to it later. When I always try to get work done immediately, I stress out and don't always do my best work. Thanks for the reminder!

  4. I do agree that the micro theme is a pretty difficult assignment. In high school we were assigned to create multiple papers and not the quality of a paper. Mental health is a big issue so if you ever need a break, take it. I heard from a professor on YouTube that you should study for 30 minutes and take a 5 minute break, so when you get back to studying you are at 100% productivity.

The Sky Can Pull Herself Together

I wonder how often rain falls, and out of the times it does rain, I wonder what the most common kind of rain is.  Is the most common form of rain a drizzle, mist, pouring rain, thunderstorm, or something else?  I think one of my most favorite things about rain is the silence.  After almost every storm, there is a silence that lingers. How quickly the sky can pull herself together, after the storm, is beautiful.     I admire the sky.  She can go through so much destruction, yet pull herself together all the same. Sometimes she doesn't fully get it together until the sunset or rise, but she still does.  She is so capable.  Maybe I am, too.     No matter what you are going through, you are like the sky.  There are many things that could  happen, and a lot of them can be uncalled for, unfair, and something no one should ever have to go thorough, but you can pull yourself together.  Whatever destru...

The Documentary Summary from Down Below

I thought I knew what I was doing when I set out to write my Doc. Summary, which I did because I knew how to set up my paper.     I started with a thesis statement, and then outlined the rest of my paper.     I have been writing objective summaries since elementary school, so I wasn’t too worried about that part.     I was a little iffy on the analysis part because I didn’t know what my professor was looking for, and it took a while for me to get the hang of it.      At first, I set up my essay almost as two separate papers; the first half was the summary, and the second half was the analysis.     Both had their own introduction and conclusion paragraphs and their own thesis statements.     I took this paper to class with me, and my professor wasn’t too keen on the set up, so I kind of had a mental breakdown because my brain couldn’t figure out how to organize a paper like she wanted. I sat on her comme...

Ubuntu

There is an African word that does not translate easily into English. This word is "ubuntu." This word essentially means "I am because you are," or "we rise by lifting others." This word is not a word, but a way of life. Ubuntu means I can not reach my full capability if my neighbor/friend does not reach their full capability . This way of life is life changing.     Think about what would happen if everyone tried to live ubuntu. Everyone would be trying to help each other rise. There would be a sense of unity. the 2008 Boston Celtics used this mentality to help propel them to a very successful season (the first in a long time). The coach told the rookies to go research the word and sell it to the team. They did a phenomenal job, and that is the main reason the team worked so well together.     As a coach some day, I would love to incorporate this into wrestling. Wrestling is seen as an individual sport most of the tim...
